Everything you need to know.

WE’VE GOT ANSWERS.

How to navigate our counseling services.

Your therapist will ask you what is going on with your life that is bringing you to therapy and how they can help you. They will ask you lots of questions and then listen to your answers. Your answers will guide follow-on sessions. Your personal goals will be a major focus for your therapist. However, if you don’t know what your goal is, tell us. Tell us what you are going through, and we will assist you from there.

Each individual session lasts 45 to 55 minutes. Overall, we don’t know how long a person will go through therapy. Some people need only a few sessions while others can take months or years, depending on the life of trauma in their lives and how it continues to affect them. The goal of therapy is for you as the client to no longer need your therapist, because you have either worked through all your concerns and traumas or that you have developed coping skills that will allow you to deal with them yourself.

Confidentiality is the basis of all good therapy. Your therapist will not share your information with anyone without your written consent. There are two exceptions, however. State law and professional ethics demand that your therapist share information in regard to the following:

  • Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults, and elders to the authorities, including Child Protection and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.
  • If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threatened to harm another person.

We value you and respect your privacy. We may pass each other at school, church, or anywhere in the Lowcountry. When that happens, we will let you decide if you would like to say hello or pass on by. We will not be upset or offended, as this is your healing journey, and we are here to help.

The self-pay rate is $50 per hour.

We are in-network with Aetna, Optim, United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana Tricare, and Magellan.

Services may be covered in part or in full by your insurance company.  Prior to coming to your first session, contact your insurance company and seek the answers to the below questions.

  • Do I have mental health coverage?
  • How many sessions are covered annually?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met for this calendar year?
  • Do I need a referral from my primary care provider?

Severe trauma and long-term mental health concerns have been shown as being largely ineffective without therapy. Medicine largely curbs the problems; therapy is needed to work through the trauma and move ahead. Working with your personal medical professional and your therapist provides the best plan for your mental health concerns.

We are professionally trained to equip you with tools to own your life and heal from traumas. We are not just a nice person who will listen to your problems (though we do!). Our goal is not to give you blind support or encouragement, but to help you process and heal from things you have experienced. Think about it like a doctor; sometimes when we have a cold, we can rest and eat soup, and it goes away. Other times, we have a sickness that NEEDS a doctor to heal. The same goes with our mental and emotional health. Sometimes we need professionals to heal.

We can also see clients virtually who live in the state of South Carolina.

No. Although we are connected with The Church of The Cross, we are here for the entire community.

Not at all. We are honest about the fact that we are believers, and we see the work we do as a calling from God. However, we will not force any religion, belief, or practice on you. That being said, if you would like to include your faith in your healing journey, we are able and willing to do that for you.

Though each clinician has different ranges and specifications for whom they see, together as a practice, we see clients from five years old to the end of life.

We do not offer childcare but talk with us about your situation. We may be able to find a creative solution.

The letters behind a therapist’s name describe their training. They can have educational letters (M.A., M.S, MED for masters; PhD, PsyD, EdD for doctoral) and license letters (LPC, LPC-A, LMSW) These letters show you the therapist has certified training and accountability in their field.

  • Individual: One-on-one talking with a therapist.
  • Group: A small group of four to 12 people dealing with a similar issue (e.g., parent groups, anxiety support groups, postpartum support group)
  • Couples: A couple and the therapist working together, whether that be premarital, marriage, or divorce therapy. It is every type of therapy that goes with being in a relationship with a significant other.

Short answer: YOU. Therapy is a process where you and the therapist work together to investigate and uncover what is needed to find healing. Your success depends on how open you are to the process. If you take the time to do the work, you will find the answers you are looking for.

INTEGRATING ONE’S FAITH JOURNEY INTO THE HEALING PROCESS

Quality of Care

Each therapist on staff has earned a master’s or doctorate degree in a therapeutic field. Many therapists have received additional training and/or certification in specialty areas. State licenses, national certifications, and regular supervision are required for therapists, ensuring quality services.

Faith Based

Clients are invited to bring their faith to the counseling process. We see faith and the spiritual life as vital elements in the healing, growth, and change process. Our therapists are respectful of each client’s faith journey and encourage the integration of this critical part of life in the therapeutic process.

Private Setting

We are a non-profit, faith-based, ministry sponsored through The Church of the Cross in Bluffton, South Carolina, as well as by individuals and organizations. Through this generous support, we are able to provide excellent counseling services at affordable rates.
